SUMMER OF SERVICE

summerweb
There are a multitude of opportunities for you and your family to serve our community, with and through our Messiah community, this summer. You don’t have to be a member to join in — just someone who wants to make a difference. We believe that Oklahoma City can be transformed by the Son of God, the Spirit of God, and the People of God. We are committed to encourage and challenge our Messiah community to remember its mission to meet the needs of our community. And we want YOU to be a part! Please take note of the following opportunities and make plans to join in. Thank you for your attention and willingness to serve:
Bible Club Volunteermmuenchow@messiahokc.org  , 946-0681
Multiple times/days to volunteer
School has begun! Join Pastor Muenchow in volunteering in one of Novo Ministries many once-weekly after-school Bible Clubs. Right now, Novo Ministries facilitates 16 Bible Clubs across OKC and the surrounding communities, and your help is needed. The commitment can be for 1 semester or the entire school yuear and requires 6 hours of training and approximately 3-4 hours of your time each week. Most volunteers choose an afternoon or an evening program and serve only once per week. Volunteers can help with leading a “small group” (like Pr. Muenchow is doing at Tulakes Elementary), teaching in a “large group”, or just working behind the scenes in a support role, all depending on your comfort level. For more information about this, contact Pastor Mark Muenchow or Novo Ministries at 209-9765 or www.novoministries.org.
Newborns in Need, macarter35@hotmail.com, 816-1213
Saturday, August 28, 10:00am
The NEW NW OKC Chapter of this group is now meeting at Messiah, in the S. Pod on the 4th Saturday of each month. If you are a sewer, knitter or crocheter, then this group is for you, as they make and distribute various items for newborn, premie and burial layettes for stillborn babies through dozens of local charities. Contact Maria Carter, school parent, for more information and for future meeting dates.

Hot Dogs for the Homeless, tlaudermilk@messiahokc.org, 946-0681
Sunday, August 29, 10:30am-2:00pm
Come and worship at our 9:30 service on Sunday, then join us in the Church office as we head out to prepare and serve 300 hot dog lunches to Oklahoma City’s homeless in a collaborative effort with a local group. All ages and stages of folks are encouraged to join us, including families. Contact  Teresa in the church office, for more information.
Regional Food Bank, shirleyhenschel@cox.net , 722-5285
Wednesday, September 15, 12:00noon
Your help is needed to feed the poor in our community. Mark your calendars now! We meet at Messiah at 12noon to carpool to the Oklahoma City Regional Food Bank. Once there, we will package food goods that will be distributed to area agencies in need. All are welcome to help. Contact Messiah church member Shirley Henschel, for more informatin

  5. Good points…I would note that as someone who really doesn’t comment to blogs much (in fact, this may be my first post), I don’t think the term “lurker” is very becoming to a non-posting reader. It’s not your fault at all, but perhaps the blogosphere could come up with a better, non-creepy name for the 90% of us that enjoy reading the posts.
